Instrumental in teaching me the core values I would stand behind for the rest of my life. Values we should all aspire to, Respect, Dedication, Determination and Passion
I had been looking to take part for some time and it didn’t disappoint. From day one during one of the most severe sand-storms came a time of learning more about yourself than any other race
A very special school whose pupils range from 2 to 19, with mild to chronic physical and learning disabilities. Despite these challenges its always a happy, warm and welcoming environment
In 2015 the challenge was to run 75 marathons in 75 days starting on my 75th birthday to raise funds for my good friends at the Newman school. A substantial amount of money was raised.
I have enjoyed being able to pass on the message that as we age it doesn’t mean we can no longer take part in exercise or do the things society generally dictates is acceptable at old age.
In 2021 I would like to celebrate my 80th birthday by introducing the 80-80-80 challenge. This time it`s your turn so let`s get all the kids involved by registering today
This challenge idea is in line with an ongoing initiative that's very close to my heart, the “Run a Mile a Day” in Rotherham schools which is having positive results. My aim, with this latest challenge is to encourage at least 80 schools to run at least 80 miles (including teachers) and to raise at least £80 per school. I will also extend the invitation out to parents, grandparents and friends to take up the challenge in sponsorship and donations. Every penny raised from this event will benefit the ageing population of Rotherham via Age UK Rotherham
Age UK Rotherham has provided amazing services over the years. Predominantly working with the older people of Rotherham they like most charities have suffered badly, unable to fundraise and secure their much needed income through their normal sources due to this horrible covid 19 virus. We need Age UK Rotherham now more than ever as we hopefully start to revert back to some sort of normality.
I am so excited by the level of interest that has been shown to date and as we prepare to launch this challenge it seems that my friends around the globe are also interested in making this an international challenge, the headlines could well be to add 80 countries to the list, how amazing would that be. We want you to be Part of this challenge. All the information you need to take part and register your school, and how to get involved, together with the People`s fundraising link can be found on this page. So please help us make the future a brighter place.
Here`s a link to the People`s Fundraising page set up to collect event donations. You can also access this page by clicking on the People`s Fundraising link in the menu at the top of the page. We would like to thank you in advance for your donations and for participating in this event, either actively or as a supporter.
We feel you need a little bit of recognition for the effort and time you have donated to this worthwhile cause because without you none of this would have been possible.
I would like to thank you personally and on behalf of Age UK Rotherham
